Places of interest!

The surrounding area is sometimes known by native Italians as "Italy's best-kept secret" which up to quite recently wasn't commonly known to the mass majority of tourists and holidaymakers alike.

Capo Vaticano which is also known locally as Baia Degli Dei ( coast of the God's) is a most picturesque coastline of white sandy beaches and sparkly aqua marine coloured sea which one would expect to find in the Caribbean and not in Southern Europe.

The Tyrrhenian sea is the southern area of the Mediterranean which is shared between the south Western Italian mainland and the Aeolian Islands of Lipari,, Panacea, Salina, Vulcanu, Fillcudi, Allecudi and the most famous being the volcanic island of Stromboli, all of which can be seen from one of the front balconies of the apartment on a clear day which also applies to the island of Sicily and the sight of mount Etna can also be seen in all its glory on a clear day.

The Aeolian Islands are accessible by way of boat trip excursions which leave from the port of  Tropea.

Panacea is a regular hideaway for the rich and famous and the restaurants are upmarket and can be very expensive, restaurants, bars and souvenir shops on Lipari and Stromboli are quite reasonable, Vulcanu is tiny and is not known as a tourist trap although it's geologically fascinating. Allcudi and Fillcudi are very small, tranquil but mountains only.

Although there are no beaches as such,  the swimming in such a beautiful tranquil sea can be an unbelievable experience.

A full day boat excursion to the islands is an unforgettable experience and is highly recommended.

The pretty coastal resort of Pizzo is another ideal place to visit with its varied shops, bars and restaurants along with its fabulous sandy beach and regular street entertainment in the town's square. It is also famous for its ice cream and was the birthplace of the world famous Tartuffo di Pizzo.

Tropea is known as the star attraction of the area with its many restaurants, Pizzeria's, Gelateria's, shops, wonderful blue star beaches, museum, port and lots, lots more.

The little picturesque fishing village of Scilla is yet another amazing place to visit with its fabulous beach, restaurants and fishing boat marina.

Reggio di Calabria is a bustling vibrant city with its own fabulous beaches and has an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars etc.

It's situated on the Straits of Messina and directly faces the Sicillian port of Messina.

A ferry crossing from nearby Villa San Giovanni is only a 30-minute crossing and a trip across is worthy of an overnight stay which would give you enough time to enable you to visit the most beautiful beach resort town of Taormina and surrounding areas.

The Aspromonte mountain range and ski resort is another area that's well worth a visit.Gambarie being a place to stay.

Those willing to travel 50km to the east will arrive at the Ionian coast where you will find the coastal towns of   Roccella Jonica,  Siderno, Locri and many other beach resorts.

Vibo Valentia is another major city with its own beach, marina, many restaurants, shops,  bars, banks, market, shopping centers etc.
